It’s LV=Cup semi-final weekend, and on Saturday lunchtime Saracens face Northampton Saints at Franklin’s Gardens. Here Henry Fraser previews Saturday’s game.
Northampton – LV=Cup Form Guide played 4, won 4.
Saints like to build throughout a game and stats show they get stronger through every quarter of the game culminating in a strong final quarter. They score a lot either side of half time and even more in the final quarter. Sarries must have their usual strong start to get an early lead as no doubt Saints will come back throughout the game.
The big factor could be down to who gets dominance up front in the forwards. Both teams possess big forwards that will be looking to get stuck into each other. The set piece is massive for the Saints.
Both teams are missing big players away representing their country, but Saturdays game will show how strong both squads are. It will be huge test of strength in depth.
Saints have won three in a row against Sarries and will be wanting to extend this record further. However both will be focused on winning this game to reach the first final of the season.
Player to watch
James Stephenson – He has shone in recent weeks for both club and country. After impressive performances early on in the LV Cup and in the Under 20 Six Nations he earned his starts in the premiership. He keeps stepping up to the mark when asked. Stephenson has the ability to score very good tries and beat defenders in a very small area with great footwork.
