Abu Dhabi Saracens defeat league leaders Doha
Abu Dhabi Saracens defeated Gulf Top Six leaders Doha 39-15 to replace the Qatari club at the top of the table.
Saracens scored five tries in a dominant performance against the Gulf Top Six leaders to extend their unbeaten run to four games and issue a another statement of intent.
After a delayed start to kick off, the UAE Saracens outfit raced into a commanding 21-3 lead by the end of the first period. Flanker Jonny Taylor scored his third try in four games with a charge down, which he then collected to run in from 30 metres out.
Winger Mike Pugliese scored in the corner after he replaced the injured Cormac Meyler. The Saracens pack asserted their dominance, with lock Alex Gonzalez also crossing before the break.
In contrast to the clinical home side, Doha’s Greg Evans missed several penalties. Their captain Liam Frost however did manage to take advantage of Saracens’ Jan Botes’ sin-binning, as he touched down in the corner to put some points on the board for the Gulf Top Six leaders.
Botes made up for his earlier indiscretions scoring a fifth try for the hosts; flanker Dillon Gage had secured the bonus point with their fourth minutes earlier.
Abu Dhabi Saracens’s metronome kicker Elliott Reeder landed seven kicks in another impressive showing.
The win will send shock-waves throughout Gulf rugby, as Abu Dhabi Saracens demonstrate they are a force to be reckoned with.
