Baldwin looking forward to a 'big task' vs Falcons
Bedford Blues take on the Newcastle Falcons tonight at Goldington Road in the first leg of the Championship play-off with five Saracens registered players in the Blues squad.
Ben Ransom, James Short, Luke Baldwin, Nick Fenton-Wells, Scott Spurling and Saracens Academy Manager Don Barrell, have all been included in Bedford’s match day 22.
Saracens’ quicksilver halfback Luke Baldwin will be starting scrum-half tonight, and has spoken is privileged to have represented both clubs this season.
“It is a great privilege to have the opportunity to represent both clubs.” explained Baldwin.
“The Saracens-Bedford relationship is as strong as ever with no less than six Saracens all involved in the squad.
“The relationship between the clubs has given players like myself first team exposure in what is a very competitive competition, and it has been of huge benefit for me. We have a great spirit here at Goldington Road, and just like at Saracens, we are looking forward to creating some memories here at the Blues.”
Bedford will host the first game of the two-legged play-off final tonight, and despite the Falcons (who have ex-Saracens Adam Powell and Noah Cato in their starting XV) being favourites to win the promotion to the Aviva Premiership, Baldwin believes the Bedford squad have “embraced” the challenge of overcoming Dean Richards’ men.
“I’m really looking forward to the final against Newcastle.
“It is a big task, but one that has been embraced by the whole squad, and we hope that we can do both Saracens and Bedford proud over the two games.”
