Billy Vunipola up for RPA young player award


The Rugby Players’ Association (the RPA) today announced that LV= will once again be the official sponsor of the LV= Young Player of the Year Award 2014, which will be presented at the RPA Computacenter Players’ Awards 2014, held at Battersea Evolution on Wednesday 21st May.

There are six nominees for the LV= Young Player of the Year Award 2014 as voted for by Aviva Premiership players based on performances in domestic rugby this season. To qualify for the LV= Young Player of the Year Award players must have been 23 or under as of 1st September 2013.

This season’s nominees include Saracens back-rower Billy Vunipola who has been impressive since his debut against London Wasps in September last year. Vunipola’s strong showing in the Aviva Premiership saw England selecting the forward his first international cap against Australia in November.

Billy Vunipola said: “It feels very cool to be nominated in this category, there’s so many great young players out there, so like the Rhead Group England Player of the Year nomination, this means an awful lot to me. I can only thank all my teammates and coaches who have always showed an enormous amount of faith in me.”

The nominees for the LV= Young Player of the Year Award 2014 are:

George Ford – Bath Rugby

Joe Launchbury – London Wasps

Jack Nowell – Exeter Chiefs

Billy Vunipola – Saracens

Anthony Watson – Bath Rugby

Owen Williams – Leicester Tigers
