British and Irish Lions narrowly defeated
Saracens loose-head prop Mako Vunipola played the full 80 minutes for the British and Irish Lions as they were narrowly beaten 16-15 by Australia at Melbourne’s Etihad Stadium at the weekend.
The all-action prop was the only Lions front rower on Saturday that completed the full 80 minutes; with fellow starters Tom Youngs and Adam Jones both replaced during the second half as the Lions came agonisingly close to securing a historic series win.
Vunipola, who capped off a superb season for club and country with a Lions call up for this summer’s tour, watched Leigh Halfpenny's last minute penalty attempt fall short as the Wallabies leveled the series.
Saracens fly-half Owen Farrell was an unused substitute for a second successive week, as the Lions focus now shifts to the deciding test in Sydney this Saturday.
