Jacques Burger believes he is well on the road to recovery after a minor operation on his knee during the off-season.
The Namibian has had a well-documented period of time away from the action in the last two seasons with a serious knee injury, but explained how he enjoying his time back on the training field.
“I’m finding the training pretty good. There’s a bit of the summer heat which makes it nice; it’s great to be back out there” said Burger.
“Today was my first session of proper running so it feels really good and I’m excited to get out training with the guys in a couple of weeks”
Burger is now preparing himself for Saracens upcoming preseason fixtures, and believes that he will be back at a “terrific time of the season” when he is scheduled to return just before the seasons start.
“I just had a clean out this summer, so it is nothing too serious and it (knee) feels really good; I’ve been working pretty hard and it has been a tough couple of weeks, but my strength is coming back in my knee really well, the physios are pretty happy with me and I’m looking forward to the season now” added Burger.
“It still early days, so I’ve not really had a run through with the rest of the squad and that is the hard part, so for me I want to get out there and get familiar with the basic drills again, and get testing the knee out.”
“I’m excited; I think I’ll be back ready to play just before the start of the season which is ideal, as I may be involved in some of the preseason matches; so if that all works out, and I’m sure it will, then it’s going to be a terrific time to come back”.
