Emerging Schools Programme (Secondary Only)
Saracens, in conjunction with the RFU and Herts RFU, have employed two Community Rugby Coaches, who are working closely with local secondary schools where rugby is not traditionally played a great deal. They have been visiting youngsters in curriculum time and at after school clubs to introduce the game, and get them playing in organised competitive fixtures and festivals. The CRCs are also supporting the staff at the school to develop their knowledge, understanding and confidence at delivering rugby sessions in the curriculum to other year groups.
The 2005-6 season saw the two coaches deliver to over 7000 students, at over 350 sessions. They were also instrumental in helping organise a number of festivals and leagues across the county.
If your secondary school is interested in getting involved and introducing rugby into the curriculum (Hertfordshire schools only) contact:
Peter Engledow (Rugby Development Officer Hertfordshire)
Jamie Traxon (Community Rugby Coach South Herts)
Paul Freestone (Community Rugby Coach North Herts)
If you are outside Hertfordshire contact your local RFU RDO for details of how you can get involved: www.rfu.com/community.
Schools Partnership Programme
Saracens are also delighted to be able to offer a number of different opportunities to rugby playing schools in the local areas through the Schools Partnership Programme.
Benefits range from the chance to attend Guinness Premiership games, coaching from community coaches, academy coaches or even players. There are options available to suit the needs, and budget of any rugby playing school. Through selling tickets for games there is even the chance to raise funds for your school!
This is your chance to build a closer link with your local Guinness Premiership team and provide pupils at your school with the opportunity develop their interest in rugby.
Dont take our word for it !....
We took a party of 180 boys, parents and staff (many of whom had never seen a live Premiership game before ) to see the Saracens play Leicester on a Friday night. The Pre-match entertainment, and the wide range of food and drink all helped to create a great atmosphere even before the game started. The game itself was a nail-biter and all agreed the night was a great success. Best of all we made a very tidy profit from the Group Ticket Scheme, which will go towards our Summer Tour of South Africa. We will certainly be going again next season !!
