Saracens Saturday Sport
Saracens Saturday Sport began during the Summer of 2008 as a pilot programme aimed at children in St. Albans aged between 10 and 14, who wanted to increase the amount of sport or physical activity they currently undertake. It is run in partnership with Herts Sports Partnership, and in response to the Government's objective of providing all children and young people with five hours of organized exercise every week.
So far, nearly 530 children have participated in Saturday Sport, and the Programme has expanded into other areas of Hertfordshire, including Watford and Berkhamsted. Children have the opportunity to participate in a range of activities which include karate, lacrosse, volleyball and cheerleading. The taster sessions are run by local sports clubs, providing a sustainable pathway for the children to continue their participation in sport. So far we know that 20 children have joined their local sports clubs as a result of trying the sport at Saturday Sport.
