Euro Watch - Racing Metro 92 held to a draw
Saracens European Champions Cup quarter final opponents Racing Metro 92 were held to 13-13 draw at home by ASM Clermont Auvergne this weekend.
The Parisians, who will host Saracens at the Stade Yves-du-Manoir on Sunday April 5 in the Champions Cup quarter final drew a blank against Saracens Pool 1 opponents, Clermont Auvergne on Sunday.
Star Irish out half Jonny Sexton was back in the Sky and White hoops, and the former Leinster man traded penalties with Les Jaunards scrum half Morgan Parra in the first half, as the sides went into the break three apiece.
Parra and Sexton once again traded penalties in the first 10 minutes of the second half to make the scores six all, before Racing made the breakthrough on 56 minutes when left wing Marc Andreu went over for the game’s first try, with Sexton’s conversion making it 13-6.
ASM Clermont Auvergne levelled the scores when wing Noa Nakaitaci, who came on for former All Black star Zac Guildford on the hour, crossed for a crucial score. With influential half-back Parra now on the sidelines, it was left to Clermont’s Australian fly-half Brock James to convert.
With the game tied at 13-13, James had the chance to win the game with a last minute penalty attempt, only to see his attempt drift wide as the final whistle blew.
Racing Metro 92 now sit fourth in the Top 14 table, as the French top flight heads into one week break. Racing’s next league fixture is at home against Grenoble on Saturday March 7.
