Owen Farrell has been named as the Aviva Premiership Rugby Player of the Month for January.
Farrell was confirmed as the best player in England after a series of impressive performances domestic and European competitions in January. All matches in all competitions count towards the award, which is decided by a media panel.
Farrell beat Leicester Tigers second row Louis Deacon, Harlequins duo Danny Care and Mike Brown plus London Wasps Elliot Daly to the award. All five were short listed.
England World Cup winner and Aviva ambassador Will Greenwood is a big admirer of Farrell’s.
He said: “Farrell has been magnificent for both club and country this year. His form for Saracens in Europe and domestically has taken off following his awesome performance verses the All Blacks. Not only is he a defensive rock but he’s beginning to find his feet and flourish with the ball in hand. His goalkicking has been epic as always. The more pressure the easier he finds it. Farrell is an outstanding talent and starting to be acknowledged on an international scale now. He’s the real deal, a thoroughly deserved recipient of January’s Aviva Player of the Month”.
Farrell was chosen by a panel chaired by Premiership Rugby ‘s Director of Communications, Paul Morgan. The panel members are: Mick Cleary (Daily Telegraph), Stuart Barnes (Sky Sports), Nick Mullins (ESPN), Alastair Eykyn (Five Live), Ian Stafford (Mail on Sunday), Jill Douglas (freelance) and Dave Rogers (Getty Images).
