Since its creation five years ago, Saracens Match Day Festivals have proven to be a huge success, becoming popular amongst our partner rugby clubs as well as the wider community, and even with touring sides from overseas taking part.
The Saracens Match Day festivals have continued to grow in both popularity and size, with over 9000 participants from 345 teams participating at Allianz Park throughout the 2013/14 season. Providing both an “A” grade and development category, the Saracens Match Day Festivals have ensured that inclusiveness and grassroots rugby remains as the foundation of its festivals. This would not have been possible without the support of Allianz and Alan Day Volkswagen who have assisted with the qualifying stages and Champions Events this season.
Prior to Saracens Aviva Premiership fixture against Worcester Warriors on Saturday 3rd May, over 800 parents, players and coaches took to the field at Allianz Park to take part in the last of this season’s U9 and U10 Alan Day Volkswagen Development Cup Champions Event.
The Alan Day Volkswagen Development Cup festivals accommodate sides looking for a fun, social and competitive style of rugby for those players who not regularly playing ‘A’ team standard. By being able to operate within Allianz Park, Saracens are able to deliver a structured and professional competition with qualified and experienced referees on a unique playing surface. This became invaluable over the wetter months when waterlogged pitches restricted play for many teams.
After a fantastic morning of rugby with four exciting semi finals, the way was paved for the day’s finals. Congratulations must go out to both Datchworth U9’s and Hemel Hempstead U10’s who claimed these titles.
Following on from the finals at half time of the AVIVA Premiership match, the winners and finalists of both age groups were presented with medals and trophies by Saracens players Nick Tompkins and Matt Hankin in front of parents and supporters.
Saracens would like to thank all teams for taking part and congratulations to all the winners and finalists below:

Phil Chalmers, Saracen’s Community Match Day Manager, commented on the Saracens Match Day Festivals. “Allianz and Alan Day Volkswagen have shown an overwhelming level of support to Saracens this season. Without their contribution to grow and build this event, young players would be unable to experience one of the most professional festivals available for mini clubs. The opportunity for youngsters to play at Allianz Park provides them a taste of what it is like for the superstars of the game. A display of young talent has been on show this season and we look forward to welcoming new clubs and players to the competition next season.”
Information on the 2014/15 Saracens Match Day Festivals will be released mid July once the fixtures at Allianz Park have been released.
