Allianz Park played host to our first 2 Fixture Nights of 2014 as the BLAST Programme bounced back into life. 3 New schools jumped on board with the BLAST programme as we continue with our quest to make rugby sustainable within secondary school in North London.
Year 7 and 8 pupils from; The Compton School, Ashmole Academy and London Academy congregated at Allianz Park for an open training session before their first competitive opportunity to put their skills into practice against each other. These schools are only 4 weeks into their development of rugby as the Saracens Sports Foundation coaches continue to deliver both curriculum based and extra curricular opportunities for the pupils to participate and try rugby out!
The following week saw 220 pupils arrive at Allianz Park in monsoon conditions, as our year 1 and 2 schools participated in another Fixture Night which also saw over 11 school staff help officiate and run the event. This is a massive stride forward as sustainability continues to grow within our 17 schools. Matt Long, PE staff at Wren Academy said “Its fantastic to see the energy and enthusiasm of the pupils to get stuck in!”
The BLAST Programme, in partnership with the SOPRA Group continue to work with over 500 pupils from schools within North London this academic year. Club links have been strengthened also with a new initiative ‘Satellite Club’ starting at Allianz Park supplying pupils from the BLAST Programme but also participants on the HITZ Programme, with even more opportunities going forwards to train and participate within Rugby.
