Hendon Hosts Hot Prospects
On Friday 9th November 29 teams, over 290 pupils, from different schools across the Barnet area came together to compete for the Year 5 & 6 Tag rugby title. The festival was hosted at Hendon Rugby Club, situated just 200 meters away from our new home, Allianz Park.
Despite the miserable weather conditions, Hendon RFC was set alight by the standard of tag rugby produced by all participating schools. Sports Leaders from both Hendon School and Southgate College officiated the day under the guidance of the Saracens Community Coaches. After 10 grueling pool matches schools were sent through to the knockout stages of the afternoon. Chalgrove Primary School secured their place in the final with a narrow victory over Dollis Junior Primary School, whilst in the other semi final Foulds Primary School sneaked past Goldbeaters Primary School. The standard of rugby remained at a very high level throughout the afternoon which led us to the grand final.
The stage was set, Foulds Primary School and Chalgrove Primary School had 7 minutes of intense tag rugby to decide who would be crowned the year 5 & 6 Barnet Schools Tag rugby winners. The match finished with Foulds school taking the glory with a well deserved 3 tries to 1 victory. The afternoon illustrated just how quickly youth rugby is developing in and around the Barnet area.
Mr Bridges from St Pauls N11 Primary School enthused “It was a wonderful afternoon of rugby, the children were gutted when we had to leave!”
