In-form Hamilton relishing Clermont test
In-form lock Jim Hamilton believes Saracens are hitting their straps just at the right time as the north Londoner's head into Sunday’s crunch clash against French league leaders Clermont Auvergne.
The Scotland international (who spent a year in the Top 14 playing for Montpellier) says Saracens recent win against Munster will put them in good stead for game the 32-year old second row predicts will be at ‘another level’.
Speaking ahead of Sunday’s game, Hamilton said: “It’s a different level of test for us. On Saturday against Munster there was that international intensity that we had to bring to the game, and we’ll have to bring more of that international intensity with playing Clermont in their own back yard. It will be another level on Sunday.
“What happened last season will be fresh in their supporter’s minds, and it’s a great game for us to play. They are a quality team, with quality players throughout their whole squad and not just in their starting 15. Throughout their squad they are a world class outfit, but so are we. We’re beginning to find the right form at just the right time and it sets it up to be an unbelievable game.”
On his own personal form, the hard-hitting lock forward added: “First and foremost to get the nod to play against Munster was fantastic for me. I seem to have been building up some momentum, and the more you play the more accustomed you get to playing well and that seems to be the case with me personally – I’m really enjoying it.”
