Itoje eyeing LV clash after Saxons bow
Saracens LV=Cup skipper Maro Itoje will return to action this weekend, as his side face Exeter Chiefs at Allianz Park on Sunday, kick-off 15h00.
The 20-year old lock will return to Saracens action on the back of an extremely impressive performance for England Saxons last Friday, in which Itoje played 65 minutes off the bench .
“It was a very good experience, one that I thoroughly enjoyed,” said Itoje of his Saxons bow. “I was little bit nervous going into it. I was going into unknown environment and I didn’t really know too many people but it was a great week and I thought I went ok in the game. All in all, it was a week I really enjoyed."
Itoje returned to Saracens earlier this week as they prepare to face the Chiefs in a crunch clash on Sunday. A win for Saracens would guarantee them top spot in Pool 1 and a place in the semi-finals, and Itoje is hoping his side can extend their unbeaten run in this season's campaign against cup holders, Exeter.
“The LV is definitely a target for us,” he said. “We have a special group of players who show incredibly heart and desire every time they play. This group is willing to fight for every second of the game, no matter the result. I’d want nothing more to go on and do well in this competition. We can’t let ourselves look too far ahead though, the works continues.
“The boys had an amazing game against London Welsh last weekend, and we have another incredibly tough game that we’re all raring to go for. Hopefully I can come back in and contribute the best I can to the team and get the result we want. We know that we’re not invincible, and that if we don’t do certain things properly that we will get beaten. There’s no complacency in our preparation and we know what we have to do to beat a highly talented and tough Exeter side. I think we’re aware of the challenge at hand.”
