Itoje to captain LV=Cup side

Maro Itoje will captain Saracens on Sunday when they face Harlequins at Allianz Park in the LV=Cup, kick-off 13h00.

The England U20 Junior World Championship winning skipper will lead out Saracens at the weekend after impressing as Storm captain in the Premiership A-League so far this season.

Speaking about captaining Saracens on Sunday, Itoje said; “I hope I play the same regardless of if I’m captain or not. When you’re captain you do have an element of responsibility, you have to be in sync with other players, the way the coaches want the game played - you have a little bit more do in terms of preparation in the game. Hopefully I’ll be able to lead well with my actions out on the pitch.

"This will be my sixth game of the season that I’ve captained so far this season, so I think I’m ready - it won’t be too new for me and I’m very much looking forward to it. There’s a leadership team around me, and they’ll help".

On playing in the LV=Cup, Itoje added; “It’s a great opportunity for players like me. It’s a great competition, for a young player you definitely target to play in the LV=Cup, to play on a larger stage.  It’s a step-up from A-League games and I’m really looking forward to it.”
