Sudbury RFC triumph in the U12 Land Rover Premiership Rugby Cup while Marlow RFC are the U11 champions
Saracens hosted an exciting under 11 and under 12 grassroots tournament this weekend, the Land Rover Premiership Rugby Cup, featuring grassroots clubs from across the region. The successful series of nationwide tournaments continues to grow and allow young rugby players to showcase their skills and capabilities in a professionally run environment.
The rugby played during the festival was a fantastic spectacle for those in attendance. The impressive Sudbury U12’s kept their composure to be successful over Eton Manor U12’s in a close game. In the under 11 festival, Marlow U11’s were triumphant with UCS U11’s unlucky to miss out. Both Sudbury and Marlow will represent Saracens as they take part in the Parade of Champions at the Aviva Premiership Rugby Final at Twickenham in May.
In addition, the Land Rover Spirit of Rugby Award, which goes to a player who demonstrated the values of rugby, was given to Toby Arnold for outstanding defence and leadership skills within his team.
Participating players at the festival also had the opportunity to meet Justin Melck and Matt Hankin who took time out of their schedule to watch the young teams as well as offer some coaching tips between games. Justin commented on the importance of grassroots rugby: “Everyone here looks to be enjoying the rugby which is the most important aspect of the game. These events provide the perfect platform for players to develop not only within a team, but also as individuals,.”
The Land Rover Premiership Rugby Cup is a part of the on-going commitment that Land Rover has to the game at grassroots level, ensuring that the company are at the heart of rugby.
