Mako hails 'important step forward'
Mako Vunipola started his first game of the season in Saracens 15-19 win away to Sale Sharks, at the AJ Bell Stadium.
The loosehead prop lasted an impressive 68 minutes in a tight and unrelenting contest that Saracens edged due to some fine last gasp defending in the closing stages of the game.
Speaking after the game, Mako Vunipola said; “We know Sale is a tough place to come up to and we knew it would be a tough up front battle for us forwards. It didn’t start the best way, by conceding a try from a driving maul, but we stuck in there and end we came out with a good result, which is really pleasing.
“I was really confident that boys were going to hold out, but I’d be lying if I said it wasn’t nerve wracking. At times like that you have to believe, and I though the boys out there did really well to dig out the win".
He added; “It’s an important step for us. We’ve come back from two defeats and we’re very happy to get win. We showed a lot of fight and hunger today and hopefully we can take that into next week’s game as well”.
