Marathon Man to run this Sunday

Richard Robert Jones has taken on a gruelling series of challenges in aid of the Saracens Sport Foundation to support the charities work with challenging and disadvantaged young people through sport.

As Director of Sport at Kings College, Cambridge Richard understands the role sport can play stating; “sport plays a vital role in a child’s development regardless of ability, and I think every child should have the chance to represent, feel part of a team and enjoy the benefits sport offers”.

Richard ran his first half marathon for Saracens Sport Foundation in 2013 and this year committed to an incredible challenge of running 14 Marathons and 20 half marathons for the Foundation including the London Marathon 2014, which he ran in a remarkable 3 hours and 10 minutes. Richard said “I wanted to spread the word about the Foundation and wanted people to know about the work they do” which has resulted in Richard raising an incredible £9,000, just £1,000 away from his amazing target of £10,000.

Richard revealed his inspiration and motivation is interacting with the young children and adults that the Foundation are working with “Their daily battles are much harder than anything I have faced, but if I can play a small part in raising money and the profile of the foundation then my aim will be achieved”.

Richard has a number of events and competitions planned for the future but this weekend Richard will be at Allianz Park completing his 11th full marathon pitch side whilst Saracens take on Harlequins. So be sure to come and show your support for Richard before the game and cheer him on!
