Mark McCall was delighted with his sides second-half performance as they came back from 11-17 down to score 20 unanswered points to beat Harlequins 31-17 to progress into the Premiership final.
“The squad is really confident at the moment, They front up every single week, we’ve got some demons from semi-finals in the past, against Toulon last season, and Northampton here twelve months ago, and to play the way we played against Clermont a few weeks ago, and to back it up today with that second half performance when we were brilliant I though, shows how far we’ve come as a squad in the last twelve months,” said McCall.
“These games are tough to win, and we’ve done that now in two semi-finals but we’re under no illusions that we have got two unbelievably tough matches coming up.
“Our season was over this time twelve months ago, we had nothing nothing but regrets, and this time having finished top of the Premiership by a long way that we deserved to win the game comfortably today and I think we can take a lot away from that.”
McCall was delighted with his sides response to going behind right on the stroke of half-time said the 46-year-old; “The try that we conceded just before half-time was an exact replica of the two tries that Northampton scored twelve months ago, but I suppose what happened this time was our reaction to that pretty major setback was magnificent,. I thought our second performance was outstanding, we won the second half twenty points to nil and I thought we could have won it by more. The reaction for not only being down the thirteen men, but that big blow right before half-time was brilliant.
“We’ve had five years of building to this point, it hasn’t all gone smoothly, we’ve had some setbacks but we’ve also had some triumphs along the way, but we’ve got players here who are more mature, who are better than they were a few seasons ago and it’s good to be part of.”
