Saracens Director of Rugby Mark McCall praised the performance of his side following Friday’s 23-10 victory over Bath at The Rec on Friday night.
Speaking after the game, McCall was delighted with the display and also praised the performances of returning England players Brad Barritt and also Alex Goode, who stepped into the fly half role just minutes before the game to replace the ill Charlie Hodgson.
McCall said: “We are very satisfied. I thought the effort was extraordinary, the way they fought for each other. From minute one to minute 80 it was a brilliant team effort.
“This week was a five-day turnaround too and we got Alex Goode back from England only on Wednesday. He was getting ready to play full-back tonight and with 30 seconds to go, he’s asked to play fly-half.
“He did an amazing job and we had to re-adjust a lot of people. The team put those setbacks behind them and just rolled up their sleeves. It was a great performance.
“Alex hasn’t been at the club for four or five weeks, apart from a couple of days. To have to step in and play fly-half against a really good team in a big atmosphere, in a big game, and do what he did, was pretty special.
“But Duncan Taylor also did extremely well to come into the side at the last minute and we played some decent rugby in the first half and had to roll our sleeves up in the second.”
Barritt was another England player to return this week and yet again, the centre displayed his all-round game. “Brad was excellent and showed his qualities, not just defensively, but also in his passing and with his kick ahead for David Strettle’s try. He had a very good all round game as did the whole team.”
