McCall praises Barritt after Gloucester win

Mark McCall praised centre Brad Barritt’s outstanding performance, after Barritt produced a Man of the Match display in Saracens' 28-21 win.

McCall, heaped praise on the England centre after a typically committed showing after Barritt returned to the Saracens starting XV after recovering from a calf injury.

“I thought Brad was outstanding today,” said McCall. “He’s a real pillar for us out there. People underestimate Brad, they think he’s a one trick pony because he’s a great defender. He defended brilliantly today of course, but there’s much more to his game than that.

“He has such a presence on the pitch and without question he’s the most competitive person I’ve come across. He leads by example. I’d have him in an international team every day of the week, there’s not much else I can say.”

On the game McCall said; “We were 13-3 down, and they came out of the blocks pretty well. We showed a bit of resilience, a bit of resolve to get ourselves back into the game. Some of rugby after that period was a little better.

“I thought we bounced back really well. Gloucester worked unbelievably hard, and I don’t think we saw that kind of fight from them last year. It was an unbelievably physical game, so we are very happy to have come away with the win.

He added; “We’re pleased that we are where we are in the league, and now we can switch our attention to Europe.”
