Saracens Director of Rugby was full of praise for his side, after Saracens ran in five tries in a convincing 40-3 victory over the Newcastle Falcons at Allianz Park.
“It was the complete performance today” beamed McCall.
“We had to build some foundations in the first 20 minutes into a very strong wind but overall we are very pleased.
“A lot of things which weren’t very good last week were very good today. Our set-piece was outstanding, our scrum was good and to keep them try-less was important as our defence last weekend wasn’t great.”
On some stand-out performances McCall added; “There’s a lot of energy from Will Fraser, Jackson Wray , George Kruis and Jamie George – that young group we have in the club”.
“Marcelo Bosch has come in and had some nice moments today. I though Alex Goode was very involved, he looked good too. Across the board we are very pleased today.
On Charlie Hodgson’s 18 point haul, McCall added “He looked like he’d never been away. “He hadn’t played for two and a half months and to play that well was fantastic and showed what a class player he is.”
Saracens now prepare for the LV=Cup in the next few weeks before the resume their Premiership campaign, and McCall says he is happy with the start of the season his club has experienced so far.
“This is the end of a block of nine games, nine games that have gone pretty well. We stand with 28 points in the Premiership, which is a good total – we understand that means relatively nothing come the end of the year but it does give us some breathing space. We’ll rest a couple of players in the next few weeks over the LV=Cup and hopefully we’ll look to be in a strong position when we travel to Exeter Chiefs”.
