McCall relishing Euro test
Saracens have been drawn alongside Ulster, Toulouse and Oyonnax Rugby in Pool 1 of the European Champions Cup.
Saracens, who reached the Champions Cup semi-finals last season, will be up against Ulster Rugby who they met in consecutive European quarter-finals in 2013 and 2014, four-time winners Toulouse and newcomers, Oyonnax, when the 2015/16 season kicks off in November.
Speaking about the draw, Director of Rugby Mark McCall said: “Once again the draw has pitted us against some of the strongest sides in Europe. Playing in the Champions Cup you expect to be playing against the best Europe has to offer, and I think if you look across all of the Pools you can see that.
“Ulster are a team that we know very well. They are one of the best in Europe and we’ve had some classic battles with them in recent years. I know how tough a place the Kingspan Stadium can be when it’s rocking on a European night, so to be facing them is a real challenge for us, but one that we’re all very excited by.
“In Toulouse we are facing one of European rugby’s powerhouses. They are still one of the strongest French sides in the competition and we know how tough a team they are after we faced them at Wembley and the Stade Ernest Wallon in 2013/14. It will be a real test for us.
“Oyonnax have been a revelation in the Top 14. They have an incredible home record and finished sixth, just a few points behind teams like Racing Metro, Toulouse and Stade Francais which shows how strong a side they are. With players the calibre of Maurie Fa’asavalu. Soane Tonga’uiha and Pedrie Wannenburg we know we’ll have to front up against them. They have a passionate fanbase and like us, they will be playing on a 4G surface next season.”
