Saracens director of rugby Mark McCall hailed his sides “phenomenal” performance as they ran away worthy winners, beating Clermont Auvergne 46-6 at Twickenham Stadium.
“I thought it was a phenomenal performance,” said McCall.
“It was built on effort, work rate and the plan was to put them under pressure which they haven’t been under all season, ad I think we achieved that”.
“Today was one of those days that everything that could have gone right went right. We know today is tremendous memory for us, but it’s hopefully a vehicle for something bigger and better towards the end of May. The atmosphere in the group, the fight they had for each other in the game was magnificent, we want to carry that forward now.
McCall praised the collective effort after the game, but also took time out to praise Jacques Burger, who produced a stunning display at the home of English Rugby.
“Jacques story is incredible,” said the 46-year-old.
“He was out if rugby for 18 months and this time last yer when he came back he didn’t look right, it looked like it may be over for him. People don’t know what he does everyday, he has an ice machine called a Gameready that is his best friend, he ices his knee about five times a day and its an incredible sacrifice for him to play in games like this. He was an inspiration today, he know he’ll give everything he has for the team. just as every other player did today.
