Billy praises Sarries staying power
Saracens back row behemoth Billy Vunipola praised his side’s staying power as they combined some red-hot attacking rugby in the first half with a steely resolve in the late stages of the game to defeat Toulon, the first team to do so in European rugby’s premier club competition.
The Cote d’Azur giants had gone 18 games unbeaten at the Stade Mayol fortress before the game and it was Saracens history boys, led superbly by the likes of Vunipola, who inflicted the first defeat on the three-time European champions on the Mediterranean cost.
“We don’t talk about records,” said Billy Vunipola, Saracens’ England No.8, “but Toulon have got a rich history and for us to take away that mantle is huge credit to the boys.
“It was a great atmosphere and a great crowd, and we gave away a lot of silly errors but you can’t be on top the whole match, and we were great, the way we stuck in there.”
