Farrell nearing return to action says McCall
Saracens fly-half Owen Farrell could feature against Toulon on Saturday according to Mark McCall.
England playmaker Farrell has been sidelined with a back and hip problem, and has missed Saracens last six Aviva Premiership rounds, but speaking after his side’s impressive four-try win over Wasps at Allianz Park yesterday, McCall revealed that Farrell could feature against the French giants on Saturday as Saracens kick-off their Champions Cup defence away to the three-time winners.
"Owen was with the team for Wasps, he warmed up with them and place kicked for the first time before the game. If everything goes to plan, then hopefully he'll be available for this weekend,” said the Saracens director of rugby.
"He's an influential member of the squad and it's good to have him around the team.
"I think he could definitely come straight into the team, six weeks isn't so long. We'll asses that in training."
McCall also paid tribute to Alex Lozowski, who shone once again in Farrell’s absence in the Saracens number ten jersey in the win over Wasps.
He said: "Alex Lozowski has put his case forward so it's a big shout for us, but Owen is a world-class fly-half.
"For us to have won five of our first six league games without the likes of Owen, Duncan Taylor and Chris Ashton is a good achievement."
