Match Preview: Newcastle v Saracens
There’s only six rounds of Aviva Premiership rugby left to go and things are hotting up as the business end of the season approaches with only seven points separating second in the table from fifth.
This weekend Saracens head up north to face Newcastle Falcons on Sunday 5th March, kick off 14H00.
Currently sitting 8th in the table but only three points behind Northampton in sixth Newcastle are in good form coming into this game. Their home form in particular has spurred on their season with the Falcon’s only defeat at Kingston Park in the Premiership since November coming against Wasps back in round 12.
Last Time Out
Saracens welcomed Newcastle to Allianz Park on Christmas Eve this season, recording a 21-6 win over the Falcons. Newcastle lead early on through the boot of Joel Hodgson but Sarries were the first try scorers, Marcelo Bosch going over the whitewash. Saracens lead 13-6 at the break, and added a Chris Ashton score in the second half, but Newcastle matched the men in black for long period of the game and Saracens were only able to add a further penalty to their tally.
One to Watch – Vereniki Goneva
32 year old Goneva is something of a veteran of Premiership rugby but his form this season has been invaluable to Newcastle. With six Premiership tries to his name he is the Falcons’ top try scorer and sits second in the Opta stats for metres made this season. Against Exeter the winger had another stand out game; topping the stats for line breaks, metres made and carries.
“We need to be at our best. We know Newcastle are strong at home so we need to keep going and step up like we did last week. We need to show the best of our abilities this week and give a proper Saracens performance” Juan Figallo
