Rhodes praises Saracens response
Saracens forward Mike Rhodes singled out his teammates ‘guts’ and ‘bravery’ as they edged out Gloucester Rugby 24-20 in a physical contest at Allianz Park.
Makeshift lock forward Rhodes played a key role in the game in tandem with former Cherry & Whites skipper Jim Hamilton in the heart of the Saracens engine room. Gloucester tested Saracens at the breakdown and on the gain-line and in his post-match comments, the 28-year old South African commended his team’s response to the visitors committed and abrasive approach to the game.
"They’ve got some big lads, and they were committed and physical so we had to show a lot of bravery out there,” said Rhodes. “We’re pretty happy with the result, but it wasn’t pretty. We gifted them two tries early in the game and then we were playing catch up.
“The second half performance was a lot better. We showed what a lot more physicality at the breakdown and points of contact so happy to get the win against a class Gloucester side who have a lot of momentum behind them."
He added: “There are lots of things for us to work on next weekend for Bath, but we showed a lot of guts out there.”
