Saracens focused on stateside test - Smith

Lock forward Hayden Smith says Saracens are focused on return to winning ways this weekend, when the Men in Black face London Irish in New Jersey, USA.

The former USA Eagles man has been in imperious form for Saracens as of late, striking up an effective second row partnership with Jim Hamilton in the heart of the Sarries engine room.

Despite the disappointment of losing to top four rivals Northampton, Smith revealed after Saturday’s game that the team are relishing their week away stateside as they prepare for the landmark fixture at RedBull Arena.

"There’s a big game coming up next week we’re all very aware of that,” said Smith. “It happens to be in a different location but we’re going out there to get the result so we’ll be very focused on getting that.”

On Saturday’s defeat, he added: “In patches we did some really, really good things. I felt like we kept fighting right up until the end right up until that last scrum we need we could still win it. The resolve is definitely still there we just need to go back and work on some execution on a few things and keep that desire, keep fighting. So often we’ve kept fighting and got the result in situations like that unfortunately didn’t get today but we’ve got to keep chomping at the bit.”
