Vunipola To Make 100th Appearance On Saturday

When Mako Vunipola runs out at Twickenham on Saturday he will make his 100th appearance for Saracens.

“I think it’s probably stuff dreams are made off to be fair “ said Mako on making his 100th appearance in a Premiership final. “I wasn’t really that aware that this would be my hundredth game” he added, “but just to play a hundred games for Sarries is a massive honour really”

Mako now joins a host of other young players at Saracens who have made a hundred appearances for the Men in Black. Names like Owen Farrell, George Kruis, Jamie George and Jackson Wray have all passed the 100 cap mark and this continuity in the squad is something Mako believes stands Sarries in good stead.

“I think that’s probably why we’ve gone so well this year, we’re very lucky to have known each other for a long time now. Everyone knows what’s needed of them, what their roles are for the team and you see that on the field, we’re able to be very calm and collected when things aren’t going our way.”

“We’re very lucky that we have a lot of players who have played a lot of games for this club and long may it continue”

Looking ahead to Saturday’s final Vunipola acknowledges that Saracens will face a tough challenge in Exeter. “We’re playing against a very good side in Exeter” he said. ‘They’ve proven that over the last few years that they’re getting better and better every year and this year they’ve shown that they can beat anyone on their day. We know that and come Saturday we’ll look forward to the challenge”

Exeter, like Sarries, are known for their tightknit squad and Mako sees this as being a decisive area when the teams take to the field.

“Whichever team are able to stay together and stay on task the best and stay together as a team will probably come out on top” Mako explains. “They’re a tightknit group, they’ve got some world class players in there. We know they’re going to come there looking forward to it, its their first ever final. I remember when we played our first one we were very excited and I think they’ll come out raring to go “
