Saracens announce two more Wembley dates

08 Oct 2009 - 09:45

Saracens will play two further Guinness Premiership matches at Wembley Stadium this season.

The Guinness Premiership leaders will play Worcester Warriors on Saturday February 13th (k.o.15h00) and Harlequins on Saturday April 17th (k.o.15h00).

Chairman Nigel Wray said: “We started something special when 44,832 spectators watched us play Northampton Saints at Wembley in September, and now we are planning to build on that success. Once again, we will be offering a fantastic day of great rugby and great entertainment at a great stadium, all at an amazing price.”

The overwhelming majority of tickets for both matches will be priced at £10 for adults and £5 for under-16s.

Saracens are also playing the Springboks at Wembley on November 17th – tickets are available at www.ticketmaster.co.uk.

Great idea. But Worcester?? No disrepsect to Worcester but why would we not have the New Years Day game against Leicester as a Wembley game? I appreciate we run the risk over being outnumbered it terms of support. But surely in terms of bums on seats and a fantastic occasion the Leicester game fits the bill.

I too must question the choice of Worcester. They are reasonably supported....so long as the game is a few miles away from Worcester so unless we're moving Wembley to the West Midlands I doubt we'll get many Worcester fans :( Quins game should be a real treat though! Cheer up those down in the dumps Quins fans by treating them to the finest stadium in Britain...and I don't mean Bramley Road..

PLEASE! NO MORE WEMBLEY GAMES. The beer is a rip-off, the food is poor quality and a rip-off, the travel there and back is a nightmare and very costly, the view from the lower stand is awful..... Oh and it is NOT a home game - it is NOT our home ground. Whether the players felt at home there or not, feeling at home is very different from actually being at home. I bought a season ticket to be able to watch every home game from a good seat, not to have to apply for a ticket for a bunch of away games at Wembley with no guarantee of a good view and the possibility of having to get a second mortgage to cover all the additional costs.

I agree, we paid over £100 to park in Watford this year, plus the cost of the season tickets and membership and now for 3 home games of the season we are not at home ! Wembley is a great stadium but our seats last time were rubbish, it feels like we are paying twice to see Saracens play

I too agree. I have been a season ticket holder now for over 10 years but that obviously does'nt matter anymore. Thats only 12 proper home games in the whole season and only 7 in the league! And with parking paid for in advance we are not getting what we have paid for. It would make more sense to play at Wembley for the 1/4 or semi final games that are extra to season ticket holders.

neezy says:

I agree please no more. At the start of the season it was suggested that 2 games would be played at Wembley acceptable but now it is 3. As a Watford AND Saracens supporter and season ticket holder, not only do I have to make a choice about which game to go to. If it is Saracens (which it probably will be) not only do I have the cost of travel etc but I also effectively lose the money I have paid for my Watford seat if a Watford home game is on the same day Also with the lower price for the Saracens games it also downvalues the Saracens season ticket!!

The question i have to ask is why. We had a great day out against the Saints . it cost most people more money than a usual home game, but we accepted that for the experience, now we've been there and got the T shirt. Vicarage road is our home ground, how do we turn it into a fortress if we're never there.

TonyTaff says:

Strewth, you can't please all the people ... ... Playing 11 or 12 league games at VR in front of a few thousand spectators was sending the club toward financial oblivion. Changing nothing wasn't an option.

I have followed Sarries from Bramley Road, to Enfield and now Watford. But not to Wembley. I agree to change but is fragmenting support the way to go? Why not market support more from the surrounding area - if it were not for Sarries shirts walking round Watford would anyone know there was a game on?

Raydow says:

I agree with TonyTaff, 45,000 at Wembley only 7,777 at VR at last home game. The club cannot survive on that. I too along with my wife are season ticket holders and club members but want to see the club flourish and be the best. We are top of the league the only unbeaten side and not to forget since Brendon, the new staff and the fantastic imports have joined us unbeaten in every game we have played. Not sure about the choice of the Worcester game but i think we may smash the record attendance when we play Harlequinns. Thats could be a decider before the play offs. I support the Sarries and whovever wears our club shirt, gives us 100% commitment on the field of play and wants to win for us. I would rather see 50,000 plus at a major stadium every week with Sarries shirts being worn everywhere than empty seats at any ground. Lets see how many loyal supporters turn up on Sunday shall we. Well done all the board and all the staff at the club for what they are doing. PS cant wait until Bath awat, already counting down the days!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
