O2 Think Big with Saracens

Saracens Sports Foundation are working in collaboration with the O2 on an employability course. O2 Think Big with Saracens is aimed at young people between the ages of 16 – 24 years old, who are not in education, employment or training.

The six-week training course is being delivered to participants from Barnet, Hackney, Haringey and Feltham.  We have over fifty participants attending the course, all from different backgrounds. The course supports our core values, around work-rate, honesty, discipline and humility and uses the power of sport to make a change in people’s lives. We have a brilliant delivery team, who are passionate about making a change in every individual’s life, and are using Saracens core values to welcome participants from all backgrounds onto the course, including those with disabilities, and young offenders.

The programme is supported by Jason Robinson OBE, and on Friday 8th May, Jason Robinson spent the day here at Allianz Park with participants from O2 Think Big with Saracens. The young people enjoyed the opportunity to meet with Jason, and were able to get involved in a media conference, putting their questions to Jason. Participants commented on how inspiring the day was, and how it encouraged them to change their own lives having heard about Jason’s own story.

The participants are in the process of working in groups to form an idea to help them develop a Think Big project. The Think Big projects all strive to make a difference to local communities. Participants will have to pitch their Think Big projects to the O2, and if their pitch is successful, they will then be given a grant to turn their idea into a reality.

Towards the end of the course, participants will be involved in The O2 Touch Tour. This aims to bring rugby fans closer to the action as it calls on the entire country to Wear the Rose and get behind the England Rugby Team, ahead of the World Cup in September 2015, and demonstrates the power of support through grassroots rugby. Starting in London on the 6th June, the tour will then travel to Loughborough on the 13th June and Bath on the 20th, before finishing in Manchester on the 11th July. We are pleased to announce that Jonny Wilkinson will be attending the O2 Touch Tour event in London. Each young person will be given the opportunity to shadow someone in a professional role to form a team running the O2 Touch Tour. The roles include everything from officials and events management, to marketing and sponsorship. The series of events will see the young people bringing together the leadership and team skills they have learnt throughout the six weeks, as well as gaining practical work experience.
