Participants from the Saracens Sport Foundtaion 50+ Touch sessions took part in their very first competative tournament on Saturday at Mill Hill RFC.
The group have been attending the FREE over 50’s touch rugby sessions that take place at Allianz Park on Friday evenings, it was the first chance that 20 of the regular attendees had the chance to play as one team. And as they took to the field in their Offical Saracens kit, it showed that you are never too old to start playing the game.
Mill Hill’s first open day to encourage playing the amatuer game was a great chance for the group to really show how far the sessions have come in a year since the launch of the programme.
With the oldest Saracen at 73, they have benefited from regular exercise and fun sessions every week that take place on the state of the art Allianz Park surface.
“Sessions are brilliant, and it has really given the chance for us older guys to come down and play regularly on this fantastic pitch. We have a good run around every week with a good warm up to start and then into mixed touch rugby matches, and where we are at now from when we first started is a fantastic achievement, it is a great chance to meet new people and play a great sport. Every week we have new people attending and it is a case of more the merrier, what ever level you are at its a great chance to either dust of the old boots or even pick up a ball for the first time”.
