In the Year 8 competition Finchley Catholic host St James’ Catholic High School with Whitefield School battling it out with East Barnet for a place in this year’s Finals Night on May 7th at our very own Allianz Park.

Over the past 4 years the BLAST Programme has worked with 21 new to rugby secondary schools in Barnet and North London, engaging over 5,000 students through curriculum based delivery. 38 School staff are now qualified to referee Rugby Union and all PE departments having attended ‘Rugby Ready’ course. This academic year has seen the first year 7-10 Rugby leagues system put in place with 47 school sides registered to compete in this year’s tournaments.

This year Christ’s College and Finchley Catholic joined the BLAST Programme. Both schools have received intense curriculum based delivery as well as teacher support and development supplied. Rich Cussell, Head of PE at Finchley Catholic said ‘The BLAST Programme has been fantastic for our school, students have loved getting involved in Rugby and a few of the lads have gone and joined their local club!’

Next year another 3 schools will be joining the BLAST Programme as we continue to grow and expand our sport supplying students with new opportunities in North London.
