Sale Sharks 14 Saracens 10

Saracens were beaten 14-10 by Sale Sharks in round 15 of the Aviva Premiership.

The Men in Black were uncharacteristically off form, as Sale Sharks frustrated Mark McCall’s side to record a their first win over Saracens in four attempts this season.

Try scorers for Sale Sharks were centre Sam Tuitupou and lock forward Jonathan Mills. Danny Cirpiani converted both scores, whilst Alex Goode kicked a first half penalty before sub Richard Barrington crossed in the 79th minute to secure a losing bonus point.

In a pretty uninspiring first half performance from Saracens, the hosts took a deserved lead into the break.

Alex Goode gave Saracens the lead with his second attempt from the kicking tee, but the Sharks hit back with centre Sam Tuitupou crossing for the games first try collecting a deft Danny Cipriani offload in the build-up.

Saracens were architects of their own downfall, with their ill-discipline in the first forty minutes a consistent problem. Mark McCall's side lost flanker Jacques Burger to the sin-bin when the Namibian loose forward went into a tackle without the use of his arms.

Sale were in the ascendant, and when Richard Wigglesworth saw yellow for a high tackle on opposite number Chris Cusiter, the Sharks made their numerical advantage count when Jonathan Mills crossed for his sides second try right on the half-time whistle.

The second half remained scoreless for 39 minutes. Saracens enjoyed the majority of possession and territory but couldn’t find a way past a well-drilled Sharks defence.

Alex Goode saw a penalty attempt drop agonisingly short during the second half, but there wasn’t much action on show for those in attendance at the AJ Bell Stadium.

Saracens went close to scoring as the minutes ticked away, when lively replacement Nick Tompkins made a half break only to see his offload evade the on-rushing Chris Wyles.

The visitors did escape with a something to show for their efforts when replacement loosehead prop Richard Barrington barged his way over in the final minute to secure the losing bonus point.
