Saracens were 32-12 winners against Sale Sharks at Vicarage Road on Sunday afternoon.
After a first half that saw Saracens lead 15-6 thanks to five penalties from Owen Farrell, the home side scored two tries in the second half with David Strettle and Charlie Hodgson both crossing the line to secure the victory.
After Danny Cipriani had capitalised on some early Saracens indiscretion to give his side a 6-0 lead, the rest of the half was one-way traffic for the home side.
Time after time Sarries forced their way into the visitors 22 and on each occasion the result was the same – a penalty. Owen Farrell kicked all five for the home side to give Sarries a 15-6 lead at the break.
With 10 minutes gone in the second period, Cipriani struck his third of the game to put his side back into bonus point range. But within minutes, another Farrell penalty made it a nine point lead once again.
Cipriani struck again before Sarries took real control of the game. A lineout on the Sale 22 saw the home side win clean ball and as it was worked into the centre of the pitch, a clever wrap-around move saw Strettle take the ball in space and race over the line. Farrell converted.
Strettle turned creator for the home side’s second try. Coming into the line, the wing put a clever chip kick through and replacement Charlie Hodgson collected the ball to score under the posts. Farrell converted to seal the win.
