Saracens players take on Golfing Challenge
Six of Saracens players took time out of their busy preseason preparations when they visited Metro Golf Centre.
Alastair Hargreaves Jamie George, Ernst Joubert, Ben Spencer, Jared Saunders and Jackson Wray were all put through their respective golfing paces as the Saracens sextet took part in a variety of challenges alongside Saracens fans.
Burgeoning back rower Jackson Wray exhibited his power winning the longest drive competition, whilst scrum-half Ben Spencer and hooker Jamie George shared the honours in the chipping challenge.
“It was absolutely fantastic having the Saracens players here” said Metro Golf Centre’s General Manager Brenden Van Rooyen.
“Seeing what a fantastic job they do for the community around Allianz Park for them to time out of their busy schedules to spend time at the golf centre is brilliant, and we’re grateful for their time".
He added; “We are their neighbours and it really is fantastic to see how they drive sport in the area, and I can’t thank them enough for their visit”.
Jamie George, who was joint winner of the ‘chipping competition’ also enjoyed the day, and said; “We had a great day with Brenden and the guys down at Metro Golf Centre, and we really enjoyed using the fantastic facilities that are only a stone’s throw away from Allianz Park – Also, it was nice to see some of our fans come down and get involved too ”.
George added; “On a personal note; I’m glad I went toe to toe with Al Hargreaves on the longest drive competition; as it just goes to show that brute force will never beat my subtle play, of which I’m famed for at Saracens and many a Hertfordshire golf club.”
