Semi Final hurt driving Spencer
Ben Spencer is hoping Saracens can make third time lucky on Saturday, by making the LV=Cup final after two consecutive semi final defeats in as many seasons.
Spencer starts at scrumhalf in the LV=Cup clash as Saracens face familiar foes Northampton Saints, a team who the north Londoners have faced seven times in as many years in the Anglo-Welsh competition.
Spencer has been the cornerstone of Saracens LV=Cup campaigns in recent seasons, with the free scoring halfback once again topping the competition's points scoring standings.
Speaking ahead of the game, Spencer said: “Guys like myself, Nils Mordt and Hayden Smith, we’ve been in this position before and we’ve fell at the final hurdle, but we’re very well placed to go one further this season.
“I think the form of the LV team this year has been brilliant - both in the LV=Cup and the A League. I think we can go into Saturday with high confidence and we are going to come up against a very strong Northampton team. We’re going into this game feeling very good.
“I think a lot of the boys within this squad have been in the LV=Cup last four before. We’ve just got a little more use to be around each other. Having played 12 games so far this season it has put in a great position."
Spencer added: “To have been able to get a home semi, from the group we were in is a great achievement. We’ve had some really tough games, away at the Ospreys in Neath, we came up against London Welsh’s first team, and two very strong side in Harlequins and Exeter. I think to have put ourselves in this position says a lot about the squad and hopefully we can get the result on Saturday.”
