Saracens backs coach Kevin Sorrell has flown out to Tbilisi, Georgia, to spend some time with Saracens Global Network side Lelo Saracens, writes Henry Fraser.
Sorrell, who has been a member of the Saracens coaching staff since his retirement from playing in 2010, is out in Georgia as part of the Saracens Global Network coaching exchange scheme.
“Having never done anything like this previously I didn’t know what to expect,” revealed Sorrell.
“Speaking to their coaches they couldn’t believe that we wanted to set up a partnership at first. The obvious benefit is the coach exchange, we will visit them and their coaches will visit us to share ideas and this will happen a couple of times over the season. As we’ve seen with other global networks teams, if there are players that show promise they could come to England to further their experience.”
On helping Lelo Saracens Sorrell added; “I suppose my main apprehension was whether they would understand my posh Essex accent, but fortunately the majority of the lads and coaches spoke English so there was always someone to translate if they didn’t understand anything.
“Lelo are already an established team in the Georgian league, they have won the championship for the last two years and provide many players for the national side. Hopefully the partnership will strengthen their position as the premier team in the country through these shared experiences,” he added.
