Saracens lock forward Hayden Smith says he was delighted to have returned to Saracens action.
The former NFL tight-end marked his return to rugby with an assured performance in Saracens 41-8 win against the Newcastle Falcons in the LV=Cup, his first action for Saracens since he re-joined the north London club earlier this season.
“It was a special day today, it was awesome,” beamed Smith.
“I had a lot of fun, the guys played fantastically well. It was just amazing to be back out there with the guys.
“I was certainty rusty in a few areas, but ultimately we were on the front foot quite a lot and the guys played really well which makes it a hell of a lot easier for me.”
Saracens coach Alex Sanderson shared Smith’s delight of the USA international’s return to action; “Hayden is a good friend of mine, let alone a fantastic player, so it was great to see him back out there today – we’re very lucky to have him back”.
“He brought a physicality today and he has a great ability to make hits. That’s only after four weeks back to rugby training, so if you you put another three or four months on top of that, he’s going to be some force in the Premiership” said the Saracens forwards coach.
