Friday 18th October saw the launch of the 2013-14 ‘Saracens Tag Rugby Programme’ with 36 teams from primary schools across Barnet competing to be the first festival winners of the year.
With the clouds staying clear all day this gave the chance to over 390 pupils aged 10-12 to showcase their tag and try scoring skills in a European Cup knockout format.
Six pools ran across the outstanding artificial surface at Allianz Park making for a fast paced, high scoring group stage, which rapidly moved into thrilling quarter finals. The close run quarter finals revealed Cromer Road, St Pauls NW7, Dollis Juniors and Tudor Schools as the semi finalists, with Dollis and St Pauls NW7 emerging victorious. A high standard final saw an intense closing minute as St Pauls NW7 walked away with the victory to be crowned Barnet Borough tag rugby champions 2013/14.
Saracens up and coming star Charlie Kingsman was the guest on the day and commented “ I am very impressed with the pace and the skills in the games, its good to see so many kids playing and enjoying rugby”
Saracens Sport Foundation were proud to introduce Community Partner McDowall Media to the programme, and the tag rugby programme sponsors were on hand to present the teams with their certificates and winners medals.
