Alex Sanderson, Kevin Sorrell and Dan Vickers will be visiting some of Australian sport’s most elite institutions this summer, when the Saracens coaching triumvirate visit Canberra’s ACT Brumbies Rugby Union side, Rugby League giants Melbourne Storm and AFL side Hawthorn Hawks.
The three Saracens coaches will be rubbing shoulders with some of world’s finest and experienced coaches in South African World Cup winning Coach Jake White at the Brumbies, multi-premiership winner and former New South Wales State of Origin supremo Craig Bellamy at the Storm, and Hawthorn Hawkes’ Alastair Clarkson.
“It’s so important that as a coach you get outside your own little bubble and see different environments outside of Saracens and I’m sure we will take a lot from visiting these wonderful organisations,” said Sanderson.
“Sometimes it can help reinforce what you currently doing and sometimes it highlights what you’re doing wrong; but generally speaking you can come back with a bit of scope and a slightly stretched perception of where you are as a coach and how you can take it forward.”
It will be a return to more familiar surroundings for Saracens’ Australian kicking coach Dan Vickers, and Sanderson believes the former Manly and NSW Waratahs full back will be excited for his return down under.
“Dan’s getting more and more Australian as the trip draws closer and closer, he’s suddenly become one of these bogan Crocodile Dundee fellas,” joked Sanderson.
“He’s obviously excited. We are due to go to his home town one night, and go and watch the Sydney Swans AFL side, so that will be a great experience I’m sure for Dan and it’s something we are looking forward to.”
