Timisoara Saracens 15 Saracens Storm 10
Saracens Storm faced Saracens Global Network side Timisoara Saracens on Saturday afternoon at the 32,000 capacity Stadionul Dan Păltinișanu.
With a healthy crowd in attendance in the City’s main stadium, it was the home side who won a tense contest 15-10, with recent Saracens arrival from the Timisoara club, Catalin Fercu, starting for the Storm at full-back.
The Storm got off the best possible start when ex-England 7s star Mike Ellery crossed for the afternoon’s opening try after two minutes. Nils Mordt couldn’t add the extras.
The home side responded three minutes later when Timisoara skipper, openside flanker Stelian Burcea, burst over to level the scores up. Timisoara scrum-half Valentin Calafeteanu couldn’t add the extras, as the score remained 5-5 after a blistering start to the game.
The hosts then took the lead when Tongan winger Viliami Moala raced away to score, much to the joy of the local crowd at the Stadionul Dan Păltinișanu - Calafeteanu coverted to make the score 12-5.
As the first half wore on the Storm pulled a try back through Kennett O’Neill, but Mordt couldn’t land a difficult conversion – as Timisoara led 12-10 at the break.
The second-half was a much tighter affair with only Timisoara adding to their points tally via a Valentin Calafeteanu penalty goal. The hosts held on to win 15-10.
