Centre Joel Tomkins says he was delighted with his return to the Saracens starting line-up after, the 26-year-old played a starring role in Saracens hard fought 23-10 victory over the Exeter Chiefs at Allianz Park.
“It was great to be back out there today” said the powerful centre after an impressive performance in the Saracens midfield.
“It’s the first time I’ve started a game for a good while now; about 16 weeks I think, so it was good to be out there again, although I was cramping up a bit at the end.
“It’s always good to get the first start under your belt and then your confidence builds after that – it was just great to get that 70 minutes today” he added.
Saracens Director of Rugby Mark McCall was impressed with the England international’s return to the starting line-up with Northern Irishman praising Tomkins’ contribution in a strong 71 minute performance from the outside centre.
“I thought Joel Tomkins made a couple of very important breaks today” said McCall
“Just after that twenty minute mark he made a couple of very important line-breaks that really lifted the team.
“It’s great to have him back for Saracens. He looked really good today” added the Saracens Director of Rugby.
