Director of Rugby Mark McCall was happy with his sides 42 – 20 victory over London Irish and singled out Jamie George for particular praise, after the front-rower crossed for two first half tries.
Saracens hooker Jamie George won the Man of the Match award, and McCall was quick to praise the Saracens Academy product, for his all-round display.
“Schalk Brits wasn’t playing today and you didn’t notice that he wasn’t, not only did Jamie score two tries he was great all over the pitch” beamed McCall.
“He threw well, he was good in the scrum, he was good all around the park and I think he’ll go to the top fairly quickly now”.
“Jamie has served along apprenticeship” added McCall .
“He’s spent four years already at the club and has stayed unbelievably patient sitting behind Schalk Brits and John Smit. When John left in the summer we didn’t try and sign anybody else as we knew Jamie was ready. He’s been patient and he’ll be rewarded for it”.
Speaking about the result McCall said: “Result wise it was the perfect start of the season”.
“At times when we were good were very good, but there we other times where we weren’t that good but that’s probably what you’re going to get at the start of the season, so you can’t really ask for much more than that”.
