Younger players looking to build - Tompkins

Nick Tompkins shared another Premiership appearance with fellow Saracens Academy bolters Matt Hankin and Maro Itoje on Saturday.

The promising centre came off the bench in a disappointing 14-10 defeat away to Sale Sharks to make his 17th Saracens appearance alongside the highly thought of forward duo of Hankin and Itoje.

Speaking after the game, Tompkins said “Maro (Itoje) and Matt (Hankin) deserve all the minutes they get. They have both played fantastically in the LV=Cup games and the Saracens Storm campaign and both of them put their hands up today. The played really well, and it’s great for us to be playing in these games together. We’re all sad about the result, but it’s good to see us being rewarded and hopefully we can build on another Premiership appearance.

“It was just about bringing as much energy as possible. We wanted that win, and we really believed we could get it but we just ran out of time in the end. From my point of view, I just wanted to bring that buzz, that energy when I came on and hopefully I did that.”

He added: “The fight from the boys in those closing stages was there, it’s tough to take but we will come back stronger.”
