Allianz Park to host 7s and the City
Saracens winger David Strettle and prop forward Matt Stevens will be hosting a sports festival at Allianz Park this summer.
7s and the City will be held at the home of Saracens on July 12th, and the Saracens teammates have come together to organise an action-packed day.
David Strettle explains; “The day is going to be a sporting occasion, but there will be a relaxed theme that runs throughout the day. They’ll be a 4fittest tournament, netball, social sevens and the highlight of the day will be an international sevens tournament including teams such as England, Scotland, Kenya, Wales and Germany who will be making their final preparations for the Commonwealth games.
“We’ll have live bands, an onsite DJ which will carry long into the night after the festival has finished. There will be different types of food stalls available, lots of beer tents, champagne bars, mojito bars – it should be some day hopefully.
“Having experienced so many amazing Sevens tournaments around the world, it’s such a great format of rugby. I’d say a party atmosphere goes hand in hand with sevens rugby - fans always seem to enjoy themselves on the sevens circuit”.
He added; “I’ve always thought that if anyone would want to get into the sport they should go and watch Sevens as there is something happening almost every second of the game, the games a short and sharp and the entertainment value is second to none”.
Fellow tournament organiser, and Saracens tighthead prop Matt Stevens;“I first thought about hosting a food and music festival”.
“Initially I wanted to do something at Allianz Park, a big social event of some kind or some sort of festival. It made sense that we did something sporting and that what was inclusive to everyone, regarding their age ability and gender.
“Saracens are blessed to have some of the finest facilities in north London and the surroundings here mean that potentially if we wanted to do something, it would be in a great location, in one of the best cities in the world.
Stevens added; “Obviously being me, the most important thing we need to get right is the beer, the food and the atmosphere. I’ll leave all the rugby stuff to Strettle”.
He added; “On a serious note, I think it’s great that Allianz Park is able to attract some of the biggest names in international sevens rugby. We would love if Saracens fans were to be able to come and experience what is will be an amazing day. We’ve got some big announcements to make in the future regarding this and all me and David can say is keep your eyes peeled for what’s coming next as we believe that this summer will be a special one here at Allianz Park”.
