Alphonsi's joy - International roundup
Two Saracens players were in international action over the weekend writes Matthew Hennessey.
On Saturday afternoon Saracens centre Marcelo Bosch was involved in Argentina’s narrow loss to South Africa at the weekend.
In the opening fixture of the 2014 Rugby Championship Bosch played 80 minutes at outside centre in terrible conditions at a rain-soaked Loftus Versfeld, Pretoria. The Springboks ran out 13-6 winners with Los Pumas collecting a hard earned losing bonus point with Bosch having a solid display in nightmare conditions for an outside back.
On Sunday the eyes of the Rugby World were transfixed on the Women’s Rugby World Cup final between England and Canada in Paris.
Saracens Women’s flanker Maggie Alphonsi was named at openside flanker and produced a typically rumbustious display both at the breakdown and in the loose, as England ran out 21-9 winners to be crowned World Champions in what was England's fourth consecutive World Cup final.
A delighted Alphonsi tweeted the morning after the game; “Best feeling in the world is waking up as a World Champion after spending 11 years of my life trying to be one. Words can't explain#WRWC2014”.
