Billy Vunipola named as player of the season
Billy Vunipola was crowned the Richard Hill Players’ Player of the Season at the Saracens Awards Dinner in Westminster on Saturday night.
The No.8 collected the award in front of hundreds of guests after what has been a fantastic season for the 22-year-old England international.
Maro Itoje was named the Young Player of the Season with the Saracens Academy graduate not only making his England Saxons debut this season, but also earning a regular first team place.
The Try of the Season award was picked up by Chris Wyles for his effort against Harlequins at Wembley Stadium in March while the Peter Deakin Award for Services to the Community was won by Nathan Earle.
One other award presented on the night was the Bryan Smith One Club Man award which was awarded to Bruce Claridge.
With fellow team man Chris Le Fevre, Bruce Joined Saracens in the late 1960s from Harpenden, as a fullback then made the move to prop. His playing career ended in mid-late 70s and he became President of the club.
Bruce is the Managing Director of his family’s long-established building company based in Harpenden, Claridge & Hall, who this year are celebrating 125 years in business. Bruce has been a familiar face in the Boardroom at Allianz Park for the last two seasons, and regularly attends away fixtures.
